I'm only a couple days away from my San Diego departure. We had a BBQ/farewell gathering at my MIL's last Saturday. I got to see my grandparents-in-law. I had only met them at our wedding. So that was nice. I heard some great stories, and had the chance to catch up with my mom a bit. The only downside? There was SO MUCH FOOD, I ate myself to death three or four times. Best workout my stomach has gotten in ages. Lots of stretching. I can't be blamed, though. There must have been over a dozen choices, including brined BBQ chicken with grilled fresh corn on the cob, the sweetest strawberries I've ever tasted, and creme brulee for dessert... Everything prepared by that amazing chef I was clever enough to marry (ok, not the strawberries)... The moral of the story is, I have no regrets.
I will miss being close to family. On the other hand, for most of this visit we were too close. I'm very much looking forward to making friends and getting comfortable in our own space. I can't wait to see my grandma again, and I have more family down there I didn't get a chance to see last time we were in the neighborhood. Should be fun.
In the meantime, there is much packing and cleaning and driving to be done. We're sort of moving my brother out of his apartment at the same time. Did I mention he just joined the Conservation Corps? Good stuff. Anyway, I may be absent from LJ for the next week or so, but I promise to return. TTFN!
